The Sarasota/Manatee TRIF RC 43 met Thursday, March 7, at Der Dutchman. Our Speakers were from the Sarasota Sheriff’s Dept.; Evan Keats, the Community Affairs Director and Detective Carlos Verdoni, of the Economic Crimes Unit. Detective Verdoni spoke of Fraud, Scams, and Identity Theft. He talked of local Scams such as Jury Duty Arrest Warrants and Grandchild in trouble. He indicated his unit has worked with federal agencies to solve many of these scams. He shared some good advice:
Don’t give out your address, telephone #’s and never SS or Bank #’s.
Debit Cards are a greater risk to you.
Don’t use Facebook to advertise your absence from your home. Send vacation photos after you return home.
