New York Voters by a huuuge margin said NO to the convening of a Constitutional Convention. They approved Public officials who are convicted of crimes connected to their positon having their pensions taken away. The voters also approved protected lands in the Adirondacks being available to the towns in the protected areas for necessary projects.
The local Chamber of Commerce held a “Legislative Wrap Up Luncheon” in Port St. Lucie for a predominantly business audience although the non profit Education Foundation was also a co-sponsor. Lawyers, realtors and entrepreneurs gave the legislative forum a largely receptive audience.
RC 43 VP Felicia Bruce is a woman dedicated to crusading for the good of all Florida citizens especially teachers & students. This month Felicia has been in Tallahassee lobbying with the Florida Retired Educators Association.
The Florida Legislature convenes Tuesday March 7, 2017 for the 2017 regular session. It will meet for a 60 day session.
Governor Cuomo released his proposed budget on January 17th. It includes changes to school aid formulas; elimination of teacher center funding; extends the “Millionaire’s Tax”; addresses special ed mandate relief; increases Pre-K funding; increases TAP Funding; includes the Dream Act; expands the Buy America Program; once again proposes changes to IRMAA for NYSHIP Retirees. These are some of the items included in the proposed budget.
Would a Constitutional Convention really be for the people or would it be an expensive party for Politicians? There are other less expensive ways to amend the Constitution of the State of New York.
Reasons to Vote NO
One of the choices on the November 2017 ballot in New York State, is the question of convening a Constitutional Convention. Rights of all kinds are guaranteed to New York State residents by the NY Constitution as it is currently written.
