2021 Florida Legislative Session

The Florida 2021 legislative session runs from March 2 to April 30.   Issues impacting Florida’s students, educators and public education will once again be at the forefront.

New York Voters Have Spoken

New York Voters by a huuuge margin said NO to the convening of a Constitutional Convention. They approved Public officials who are convicted of crimes connected to their positon having their pensions taken away. The voters also approved protected lands in the Adirondacks being available to the towns in the protected areas for necessary projects.

A Bad Bill Defended...In Their Own Words

The local Chamber of Commerce held a “Legislative Wrap Up Luncheon”  in Port St. Lucie for a predominantly business audience although the non profit Education Foundation was also a co-sponsor. Lawyers, realtors and entrepreneurs gave the legislative forum a largely receptive audience.

Gov. Cuomo's proposed 2017-18 Executive Budget

Governor Cuomo released his proposed budget on January 17th. It includes changes to school aid formulas; elimination of teacher center funding; extends the “Millionaire’s Tax”; addresses special ed mandate relief; increases Pre-K funding; increases TAP Funding; includes the Dream Act; expands the Buy America Program; once again proposes changes to IRMAA for NYSHIP Retirees. These are some of the items included in the proposed budget.
