Staying Informed

By Maxine Knisley – Membership Chair

It is essential that we, as Educators & Retirees, continue to stay aware of the actions of our Legislators. This vigilance includes monitoring Legislators both in Florida & New York as well as in Washington.

There will be numerous debates at the national level in the coming months about cuts to Medicare & Medicaid and over the formula for determining Social Security payments.  We must keep an eye on Legislators at the state level in both Florida and New York so there will not be any further cuts to education funding.  Fair teacher evaluation plans in both states need our attention as well.

NYSUT Retiree Council 43 has a Facebook page New York State United Teacher Retirees in Florida. We also have a website, http://RC43.ny.aft.org . Both of these social media sites are good ways to stay in touch with current issues that should be of concern to us as Educators and Retirees.  When it is necessary, we must let our lawmakers know that they should vote favorably on both Education and Retiree issues.  Our Facebook and RC 43 website will provide articles that will take you to petitions or directly link you to the Legislators who need to be contacted.
