If you support public education and want to show it, January 13 will be THE DAY. Parents, teachers, administrators, interested community members, support personnel, and all who care about the state of education in The Sunshine State plan to come together to deliver their message. They know what Tallahassee lawmakers have forgotten: a democracy needs an educated population to sustain itself. If America is to compete on the world stage, it must have world class learning facilities staffed by excellent individuals.

If you want to help deliver the message call your local school district's union. Most of the 67 counties plan to send a bus load of supporters to the event in the state capitol. Some smaller districts may share buses; some people may prefer to drive independently to the event. Either way please plan to be there!

For those of you new to the Florida education scene, you may be surprised to discover that the Florida Legislature has become notorious as the incubator for every bad idea in education. The League of Women Voters documented the decline first initiated by JEB Bush two decades ago. If you are not familiar with the plans that have failed Florida's students, read all about it at https://npeaction.org/twenty-years-later-the-jeb-bush-a-plan-fails-floridas-students  Perhaps all you need to know is that JEB Bush and Betsy DeVos are longtime friends who share the same disdain for public education and the same desire to promote charters and vouchers over public schools, using tax payer dollars, of course.
