Title: Retiree Services Consultant

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position will be responsible for all issues related to the implementation and promotion of the union’s retiree program and services at the regional office level. The Retiree Services Consultant will attend, and represent NYSUT, at retiree council meetings. The Retiree Services Consultant will assist:
● in planning, organizing retiree members as well as directing annual regional conferences
● in maintaining retiree membership and leadership records for their respective coverage area
● in securing presenters and speakers when needed for conferences, and other retiree special events
● in collecting and disseminating other information and materials to Retiree Councils
● in assisting Councils with producing retiree services publications, including retiree handbooks, and writing
and reviewing retiree council newsletters
● in maintaining a calendar of retiree office and activities in your coverage area
● in assisting with any follow-up work that must be done after each meeting
● in responding to and follow through on retiree questions by phone, e-mail and mail
● in evaluating and reporting the conference programs progress
(Job description is currently under review and may be subject to change. Travel requirements may be extensive. When scheduled, must be available to attend quarterly meetings in the Albany area).
QUALIFICATIONS;
The ideal consultant will have working knowledge of NYSUT institutional policies and goals, an understanding of retiree issues, good communications (written and verbal) and organizational skills, and successful union leadership at the regional level, or other applicable leadership experience. The ideal consultant should have: the ability to plan, organize, direct and coordinate group activities and programs; good interpersonal and leadership skills (self-motivation and a proactive attitude are a must); and some knowledge of computers and basic computer skills required. The successful consultant must be capable of strategically assessing the needs of members of the local retiree chapters and councils and have a track record in areas such as meeting deadlines, group management and planning. Finally, the candidate should have a basic understanding of human nature, and have the flexibility and skills to perform well in a consulting role where recommendations and advice are sought, but perhaps not always valued.
TIME COMMITMENT: Varied: Approximately 10 hours per week
STIPEND: Monthly (11 out of 12 months)
