The Treasure Coast 'TRIF' (Teachers Retired in Florida) resumed their monthly meetings in October with a visit from CTA local president Vicki Rodriguez who brought them up to date on the state of education in Florida and the plight of local school employees in St. Lucie County.
November's meeting was more fun than 'getting up to speed' on education issues. More than a dozen members gathered at the Elliott Museum in Stuart to experience a private tour of the American memorabilia on display. The museum boasts one of the finest collections of classic cars in America (more than 60 on display) and the best collection of baseball cards and other items outside Cooperstown, NY. Members asked questions, admired the art and artifacts then proceeded to the traveling BOB HOPE display. Remembering the comedian's life and contributions to American culture refreshed everyone's recollections of an era gone by. The display focused on his entire life with an emphasis on the USO tours he did that boosted troop's morale during WW II and which he continued during the Korean War and Vietnam.
Following the museum experience, the group shared a culinary experience at a local restaurant, THE PRAWNBROKER, which everyone enjoyed. Next month members will gather at the Holiday Inn in Port St. Lucie for a holiday celebration (Wednesday, December 6 at 11 AM).
The unit is a welcoming group and anyone who cares about education, was connected to educational services or is retired from an affiliate organization is invited! Call Mary Brower 772-283-3887 for more information.
