On March 8th, as a member of the NYSUT Committee of 100, we went to visit Senator Neil Breslin and NY State Legislator Philip Steck today in Albany. We urged our representatives to:
repeal the punitive Receivership Law
Restore Teacher Center funding to 40 million dollars
Change the allowable tax levy limit to 2% or CPI whichever is greater
Reject the Parental Choice in Education Act
Support an increase in funding for high quality, school-based Pre-K for all 3 & 4 year olds
Include language in the final enacted budget to allow all veterans to purchase service credits
Address important concerns concerning the definition of Public Official before moving forward with Pension Forfeiture for Public Officials
Support the proposal for Paid Family Leave
Support the proposal to increase the state's minimum wage to $15 per hour
Oppose appropriations for a Constitutional Convention Study Commission
Reject the proposed changes to Workers Compensation Laws that are included in the Executive Budget Proposal
Preserve the current New York State health insurance reimbursement system for NYSHIP retirees
And, finally preserve current reimbursement language for Medicare Part B premium by rejecting the Executive Budget
